    Event Description:
    Celebrate Valentine’s Day with an afternoon of history and fun as author Jan Whitaker presents an illustrated talk on the story of the tea room craze in America on Wednesday, February 14, 2-4 pm at the Alden House Historic Site. 
    A consumer historian specializing in the social history of retail businesses like tea rooms, Jan will discuss how the arrival of the automobile, effort to prohibit alcohol, and the beginnings of the women’s independence movement helped spark the establishment of hundreds of tea rooms across America, including in Duxbury and at Alden House. 
    The program is supported by a grant from the Duxbury Cultural Council, a local agency which is supported by the Massachusetts Cultural Council, a state agency.   
    The program will include refreshments.  Reservations are recommended.  Snow date is February 16.  Admission is $10; $8 for members.
